A New Chapter in Ukraine–U.S. Relations
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has signed a decree appointing Olha Stefanishyna as the new Ambassador of Ukraine to the United States of America.
According to the President, the embassy in Washington will focus on two main tasks: updating the work of the diplomatic mission and ensuring the full implementation of all agreements reached during his meetings with U.S. President Donald Trump.
Priority – Defense Cooperation
Zelensky emphasized that defense partnership remains a key priority. Currently, two Ukrainian proposals are on the table:
- an agreement on weapons for Ukraine,
- an agreement on advanced drones for the United States.
The President expects quick progress in bilateral relations, stressing that cooperation with the United States is essential for long-term security guarantees for Ukraine.
Gratitude to Oksana Markarova
Volodymyr Zelensky also expressed gratitude to former Ambassador Oksana Markarova, who represented Ukraine in Washington throughout the most difficult years of Russia’s full-scale war.
“Oksana has done extremely important work – Ukraine was always heard in Washington. I have invited her to continue being part of our team, working for Ukraine,” the President noted.
The appointment of Olha Stefanishyna marks a new stage in Ukraine–U.S. relations, with a clear focus on defense cooperation and the implementation of strategic agreements.
