Infrastructure Recovery Continues Despite the War
At the end of last year, traffic was officially restored on a bridge along the R-69 highway in Kyiv region, marking another significant milestone in Ukraine’s ongoing reconstruction efforts.
The project was implemented as part of a loan agreement with the United Kingdom through UK Export Finance (UKEF) mechanisms, enabling Ukraine to attract international funding and technical expertise for rebuilding critical infrastructure.
A Lifeline for Local Communities
The bridge was destroyed in the early days of Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022. It serves as a vital transport artery connecting the city of Vyshhorod with left-bank communities and plays a strategic role in logistics toward the Chernihiv region.

Thousands of vehicles cross this route daily. Restoring the bridge has dramatically improved mobility, economic activity, and access to essential services for local residents.
High-Level Visit Highlights Successful Cooperation
The restored bridge was recently visited by:
- Chris Bryant, UK Minister for Business and Trade, responsible for coordinating reconstruction support to Ukraine;
- representatives of Ukraine’s Ministry for Communities and Territories Development;
- officials from Ukraine’s Agency for Restoration.
The visit showcased the project as a successful example of effective Ukrainian–British cooperation in post-war recovery.

Ukrainian representatives expressed sincere gratitude to the people of the United Kingdom, the British Government, and UK Export Finance for their consistent and substantial support in rebuilding Ukraine’s critical infrastructure.
What’s Next?
This bridge is one of six infrastructure facilities in Kyiv region scheduled for reconstruction under international partnership programs.
- Four bridges have already been reopened
- Two more are currently under reconstruction
- Full completion of all projects is planned for 2026
Ukraine aims to further deepen cooperation with British partners through the Infrastructure Taskforce and the UK Department for Business and Trade to expand reconstruction initiatives.
More Than Concrete and Steel
The restoration of this bridge is more than an engineering project. It represents renewed hope, economic resilience, and the return of normal life to communities affected by war.
It is a clear demonstration that, even under constant threat, Ukraine continues to rebuild – with the strong support of its international allies.
