The Come Back Alive Foundation has contributed to the development of unique 5.56 mm and 5.45 mm cartridges designed to effectively counter enemy FPV drones, including those controlled via fiber optics. This innovation aims to provide Ukrainian soldiers with an additional layer of individual protection on the modern battlefield.

Development Details

  • The project involved Ruslan Shpakovych, the foundation’s senior sniper instructor.
  • The new bullets do not replace electronic warfare systems (EW) but offer soldiers another chance to neutralize drones when there is no cover or possibility to destroy them by other means.
  • Design features:
    • leading part — lead,
    • striking elements — 5 mm brass pellets.
  • At a firing distance of 30–70 meters, the rounds create a “fragment cloud,” greatly increasing the probability of hitting a fast-moving drone.

Advantages for Troops

  • Compatible with standard small arms — no need for special anti-drone shotguns.
  • Maintains high rate of fire and mobility in combat.
  • Useful for infantry, UAV crews, evacuation teams, and units regularly exposed to FPV drone attacks.

Why It Matters

The widespread use of drones has become one of the biggest threats in today’s war. Ukrainian engineers and military experts are constantly searching for new solutions to counter the FPV drone threat. Anti-drone ammunition is another innovative tool that increases the chances of protecting the lives of Ukrainian defenders on the front line.
